BLUE LAB Family Day Care EDGEWATER
I‘m Clara and I have a daughter who is one year old. I’m originally from South America but I’ve been in Perth since 2014. After working in childcare for several years, I decided to start a new exciting journey and open my own family day care. I was glad to find Bluelab, as I love the Reggio Emilia approach.
I believe that the first years in a child’s life are critical for development. Learning needs to be an enjoyable experience where the child is the centre of this learning. The role of the educator is to observe and monitor the children’s progress and interests and to support learning by providing carefully planned experiences. I believe children are highly capable, we just need to allow them to explore and gain independence, as this will build their self-esteem. I believe each child is unique and his or her talents must be nurtured to reach their full potential. I love seeing children flourish in their development and become confident learners.

Know how well do we do
A top-notch service for you!
BLUE LAB has gone through the NQS rating process by the Education and Care Regulatory Unit.
The rating measures the quality of any Early Childhood Service in Australia. It examines seven areas and scores them within a four-scale system: Needs improvement, Working Towards, Meeting, and Exceeding what is expected.
BLUE LAB has scored 5 Meeting and 2 Exceeding. These last ones were in Relationship with Children and Collaborative with Families, where it really matters.
But how good our score is? Is just good… or really good?
Somos bilingües | We are bilingual
En este Day Care hablamos en español, lo cual es genial para niños hispanoparlantes que deseen reforzar y aprender la lengua de al menos uno de sus padres.
We speak Spanish in this center. This is great for english-speaking kids if you want them to start learning a second language at the best possible age.
We follow the Reggio Emilia approach, which is based on:
Image of the child
Each child is unique. They can think and act by themselves. They have abilities, potential and rights. The child collaborates in creating knowledge, culture and identity.
Families are actively involved in their child’s learning experience. They work together with the educator. They are always welcome and are encouraged to bring in ideas, stories and skills.
Role of the teacher
The teacher is a facilitator that observes the child and provides learning opportunities. Educators allow projects to emerge based on the interest of the children.
Community and group work/projects
We emphasise collaborative projects. Project work is very important in adult life, so it is extremely beneficial to start group work from childhood. Projects help social and emotional development, knowledge and vocabulary.
We explore the children’s interests before starting projects and encourage the children’s input in keeping with the collaborative work philosophy.
The environment as a third teacher
We acknowledge the significance of the learning space, learning materials, and an outdoor area in the child’s education. The organisation of the space encourages communication and learning. Educators help creating a friendly environment to provoke child’s curiosity.
Relationships are an essential part of children’s world. They need human relationships that provide belonging, safety and friendship. Educators can support children in building good relationships with skill and confidence.
There are many ways of creating environmental awareness in their early years. We foster awareness around water and energy saving, gardening, refusing, reducing, reusing, recycling, pollution, composting, climate change and others.
